What Christ Has Made Us by Johnny Hunt

WHAT CHRIST HAS MADE US

I. Peter 2:9-l0

INTRO. As children of God, we are subjects or citizens of God's
kingdom. We become citizens by a new birth from God. The new
birth is a miracle that takes place in a sinner's heart when he
repents of sin and places faith in the finished work of Jesus
Christ. Peter describes the citizens of God's country in this
passage.

I. AS TO OUR WORLD. v.9

We are a heavenly people with a heavenly Father

A. CHOSEN GENERATION 9a

To choose for oneself; choosing with kindness, favor,
or love. A sacrificial choosing, like that of
Calvary.
To choose, but not for gain.

ILLUSTRATION. Not what we could do for God, but
what God can do for us.

B. CROWNED PRIESTHOOD 9b

In Israel the offices of priest and king were always
kept
separate. But in Christ, they become one.

- As Kings, we are to take God to men, revealing the
righteousness of Christ in holy living.

- As Priests, we are to take men to God through
earnest intercession and compassionate soul-
winning efforts.

The evangelistic mandate involved with priesthood is
in view here, as demonstrated by the last phrase in
the verse.

l. We are to worship (Kings)

2. We are to witness (Priests)
