PREACH THE WORD
II Timothy 4:l-4
August 9, 1992
INTRODUCTION: Paul had shared much in Chapter 3 about the
"falling away" in the last days. Now he reminds the young
pastor that future heresy is viewed as the outgrowth of present
error. With that in mind, Paul challenges Timothy to redeem the
time by preaching the word while people would still listen. The
day is coming, and in many places already is, where people will
turn to only a "form of godliness." Note the Apostle's word to
his son in the faith.
I. THE CHARGE DECLARED. v.l
A. THE GRAVITY OF THE CHARGE. 1a
My ministry is to be carried out
in view of the fact that it is done
in the presence and view of my
Heavenly Father, my Savior.
ILLUSTRATE: It challenges me to
know who is present in the services,
but it is much more serious to know and
realize that He is here.
B. THE SOLEMNITY OF THE CHARGE. 1b
"who will judge" - a time of
accountability; everyone will
eventually stand before Him to give
"living" - those who will be
alive at the time of His
"dead" - those who will
experience a resurrection to a
personal meeting with the Lord.
(I Thess. 4:16-18)
