KEEP ON REMINDING THE PEOPLE

II Tim. 2:14-19

July 26, 1992

INTRODUCTION: It is apparent that the most severe measures were
adopted in those first days to maintain purity of doctrine and
purity of life. This passage makes it clear that Paul's
challenge was most serious in the area of diligence. Diligent
as a worker that realized one day he would appear at the
Judgement Seat of Christ to give an answer for his service. Now
as Paul faces his last days and is now prepared to pass the
leadership on to young Timothy, he reminds Timothy to ever
remind the people of the false teachers; those who made it their
business to lead people away from the truth. In order to keep
Paul's charge, Timothy would have to constantly remind the
people of these truths:

I. THE TEACHER'S DUTY. v.14, l6-18

A. A STRONG APPEAL. 14

"remembrance" - present tense;
emphasizes continual action. Those
who attend church tend to want to
hear some new truth that will
revitalize their lives.

B. A SOLEMN APPEAL. 14

"charging them before the Lord" -
exhortation by warning; as in His
sight.

1. ABOUT THE DANGERS OF FALSE
TEACHING. 14, 16
a. Leads to Catastrophe. 14

"subverting" - conveys
the idea of overthrowing or
"turning upside down."
Paul was saying that useless
word battles by believers
