II Timothy 2:l-4

INTRODUCTION: Here Paul presents several pictures of the local
church, showing the various ministries God has for His people
and their pastor.

STATEMENT: Leadership must be in the hands of a few and
ministry in the hands of many. The members must give us
authority and the pastor must give up ministry. The pastor's
job is to lead and feed. If you will do the ministry, I will
make sure you are well-fed.

Nobody will give you leadership, you must assume the leadership
God has already given you.

Begin where people are and lead them to where they should be.
Teach your way out of any problem. Committees, election,
boards, majority rule, and parliamentary procedure all have one
thing in common - they are not in the Bible. The local church
is.

I. GOD'S FAMILY. v.1

"my son" - suggests that Timothy had been born
into God's family by faith in
Christ. In I Tim., Paul refers to the
local church as the "household of God."
The local church is not a sanctified
country club, it is the family of God
meeting together to fellowship, worship,
and serve.

"Be strong" - passive voice, present
tense; an abiding and continuing
strengthening that comes from a source
"without yourself." Inner
spiritual strength.

"My son" - endearing affection.
