CONSIDERING OUR EXAMPLE

II Cor. 8:7-12

October 13, 1991


INTRODUCTION:Last week I spoke on the subject "Challenged By An
Example". Today, we will look into God's Word and see not only
"an example," but "our example". The message could very well be
entitled "Proof of the Sincerity of Our Love." Our giving
should be done in light of the grace of God. We should look to
the cross and then respond accordingly. Therefore, our giving
should not be cold-hearted calculation but warm-hearted
jubilation. Jesus Christ and His finished work on the cross is
always the preeiminent example for the believer to follow,
whether in service, suffering, or sacrifice. It has been said
that "you can give without loving, but you cannot love without
giving." It is also well to remember that "people don't care
how much you know, until they know how much you care." Let's
consider our Example. Our giving should be:

I. MOTIVATED BY THE SAINTS' LOVE. v.7-8

A. THEIR EARNESTNESS. 8a

The Macedonians were exhorters to
the Corinthians. We see the example
of the energetic Macedonians.

"Commandment" - human pressure nor by
appeal, but by example




B. THEIR EXAMPLE. 8b

"Sincerity" - genuineness; they were
REAL!

"Prove" - put to the test and passed.

C. THEIR ENCOURAGEMENT. 7
