GRACE IS GREATER

Gal. 4:1-7
November 28, 1993

INTRODUCTION: "Our navigator has lost our position and we have
been flying aimlessly for over an hour. That's the bad news.
But the good news is that we are making very good time."
Legalism gives the appearance of spiritual maturity when, in
reality, it leads the believer back into a "second childhood" of
Christian experience.

I. THE MANIFESTATION OF THE LAW. v.1-3

A. CONDITION. 1a

"child" - immature person; under
the law; a minor

"slave" - commanded by master of
house - the child commanded by
slave

The servant was commanded by the
master of the house, and the child
was commanded by the servant;
therefore, no difference.

The O.T. saint was a babe,
immature, not realizing the glory
and fullness of his future
inheritance. He was like a child
who, although heir to millions by
virtue of relation to his father,
is totally ignorant of the great
wealth he is heir to, and would be
made happier with a nickel than the
promise of millions. The O.T. saint
lived in the shadows, saw
things indistinctly and dimly.
But today, under grace, the
shadows are gone and we have the full
revelation of our sonship.
