Fruit That Proves
INTRODUCTION: These verses serve as a constant reminder that there is a great need in this world for spiritual illumination.
I. OUR WALK IN THE LIGHT. v.8-10
A. PAST. 8a
Ignorance of things of God.
I Cor. 2:14, ''But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God; for they are foolishness unto him, neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.''
''Spiritually discerned'' means to be so gripped in the ways of moral darkness as to be part of it. They were not just in darkness, but darkness was in them.
B. PRESENT. 8b
We have become the embodiment of light
Col. 1:13, ''Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son.''
I Peter 2:9, ''But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a people of his own, that ye should show forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvelous light.''
Indwelt by the light of the world.
II Cor. 4:6, ''For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shone in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.''
C. PERSON. 8c
Christ is the source of our light.
John 1:4, ''In him was life; and the life was the light of men.''
I Thess. 5:5, ''Ye are all sons of light, and sons of the day; we are not of the night, nor of darkness.''
D. PLEA. 8d
To live before the eyes of God, not hiding anything.
Our manner of life; habitually.
I John 1:7, ''But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ, his Son, cleanseth us from all sin.''
