II Chronicles 14:1-15

INTRODUCTION:

1. What an exciting story of God's intervention in the life of a king and a nation. Asa cried out, "Help us O Lord our God, for we rest on Thee." And God did help.

2. Isn't it great to know that in our time of need we can cry out to God and have the assurance He will help? Friend, I can tell you, no one else can help like Jesus. He is our Helper and our best Friend:

a. You know what? If people really believed and practiced that truth, the psychiatrists and psychotherapists would be put out of business tomorrow.

b. Why is it people are willing to spend so much time and money with counselors, rather than to go to the true Counselor?

c. Isaiah 9:6, "And his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace."

ILLUS: A man fell into a pit and couldn't get himself out...

A SUBJECTIVE person came along and said, "I FEEL for you down there."

An OBJECTIVE person came along and said, "It' s logical that someone would fall down there."

A CHRISTIAN SCIENTIST came along, "You only THINK that you are in a pit."

A PHARISEE said, "Only BAD people fall into a pit."

A NEWS-REPORTER wanted the exclusive story on his pit.

A FUNDAMENTALIST said, "You DESERVE your pit."

CONFUCIUS said, "If you would have listened to me, you would not be in that pit."

BUDDHA said, "Your pit is only a state of mind."A REALIST said, "That's a PIT."

BUILDING INSPECTOR asked if he had a permit to dig a pit.

A SELF-PITYING person said, "You haven't seen anything until you see MY PIT!!"

A CHARISMATIC said, "Just CONFESS that you're not in a pit."

An OPTIMIST said, "Things COULD be worse."

A PESSIMIST said, "Things WILL get worse!!"

JESUS seeing the man, took him by the hand and HELPED him OUT of the pit.
