The Christian's Declaration Of Dependence by Jesse Hendley

Jesse M. Hendley
Matthew 13: 20-21

Now, friends, today we are taking up the study of
FAITH, faith in salvation, which is such an important,
important thing. The faith that saves!

We have seen that in genuine faith there is not only a
mental approach, the approach of thought, but we have
found that there is also an emotional part and
inevitably emotion will follow thought that is
accurate. There is real reaction in our own souls when
we follow God's Word.

Now we read here in Matthew 13:20, 21 that "he that
received the seed into stony places, the same is he
that heareth the Word, and anon with joy receiveth it.
Yet hath he not root in himself, but endureth for a
while, and when tribulation or persecution ariseth
because of the Word, by and by he is offened
(straightway he stumbleth)."

There we have external religion believing, but not
lasting! Enduring, but just for a while. But God says
HE THAT ENDURETH TO THE END. There are people who
endure just for a while. They discredit Christ. They
wreck the faith of others who want to start with
Christ. There are many who say, "Well, I have seen
many people START, but they haven't endured, and I'm
not going to start till I am sure."

But you will never be saved till you start! You cannot
wind up right at the end of the race unless you START
in sidelines looking on, watching someone else
running, YOU will not be able to break the tape. If
you are going to make Heaven, you'll never make it
standing by looking on at others, saying that some go
on and others stop. Life is like a race. If you stand
and watch a race, you'll find some falling out. Some
go on to break the tape. You'll find some running
faster than others, enduring better than others. But
what has that go to do with YOUR BREAKING THE TAPE? If
you are running in the race, you are not worrying
about the other fellow you're doing all you can to win
