God’s Purpose for Us in Christ

Ephesians 1:11

Now friends, if you have your Bibles, turn with me to the Book of Ephesians, chapter 1 and verse 11.

Yesterday we took up our study of THE PURPOSE OF GOD. We read in verse 9 about the purpose which He purposed in Himself, His good pleasure, and it is called, ‘‘The secret of His will.’’ We found that God has a plan, a plan about His Son Christ Jesus. We found that this was a mystery, and ‘‘mystery’’ means a REVEALED secret, a secret that was hidden in times past but was revealed to us, that God’s plan is to sum up all things in Christ, which means the destruction of everything OUT of Christ. Both things in heaven and things on earth, IN CHRIST, shall be UNIFIED, shall be brought together. That is God’s ultimate purpose. It will be a Land of no tears, no sorrows, and no heartaches.

There will be a gathering together of angels and all spiritual beings that are IN CHRIST. Things in heaven and things on earth will be gathered into the Holy City. God is going to destroy this present heaven and earth, and create a NEW heaven and new earth, and Jesus is PREPARING NOW the Holy City to come down out of heaven. We are going to live with God and the angels and archangels and seraphim and cherubim and living creatures and all spiritual beings who love Christ. In Eternity we are going to live with God and the saints who have loved Christ down through the years, the thousands and millions who have trusted Jesus and were spiritual and lived for Him. We are going to live with them through the ages of eternity. That is what God’s PLAN AND PURPOSE is, through the Gospel, IN CHRIST. That is God’s plan FOR JESUS: He is going to reign and put all enemies under His feet.

Now we come to God’s purpose FOR US. We read here in verse 10, ‘‘That in the dispensation of the fullness of times He might gather together in one all things in Christ, both which are in heaven and which are on earth, even in Him in Whom also ...
