To Sleep In The Glory Of The Lord by Duane Bemis

To Sleep In The Glory Of The Lord
Rev. Duane Bemis
Psalm 3
May 4, 1994

"O LORD, SO MANY ARE AGAINST ME. SO MANY SEEK TO HARM ME. I HAVE SO MANY ENEMIES." (TLB)

ONCE AGAIN, I FEEL LIKE A DEER IN THE FOREST WITH NO NATURAL MEANS OF DEFENSE AGAINST THE SURPRISE ATTACKS OF MY ENEMIES. THEY COME FROM THE SHADOWS OF DARKNESS, WANTING TO DRAG ME OFF ONCE THEY HAVE WOUNDED ME. I CAN'T EVEN SEE WHERE THEY HIDE. I CAN'T EVEN SMELL THEIR FILTH; FOR THEY ARE CUNNING, AND THEY JUST WAIT DOWNWIND. AT TIMES, I FEEL LIKE A MAN WHO HAS BEEN SAVAGELY ATTACKED, AND MY ENEMIES CONTINUE TO TAKE A BITE OUT OF ME. I FEEL, O LORD, I HAVE NO MORE FLESH FOR MY ENEMY TO NIBBLE ON. MY ENEMY, OUT OF THE DARKNESS, JUST WAITS FOR ME TO STUMBLE. THE ENEMY AWAITS MY PRESENCE; HE LIES IN SILENCE TO SEE IF I WILL STRAY FAR ENOUGH FROM YOU AND YOUR ARMS. HE PATIENTLY WAITS TO DESTROY ME AND YOUR REPUTATION. AS THE ENEMY WAITS, MY SAVIOR WILL NOT ALLOW HIM TO BE SUCCESSFUL IN HIS EFFORTS. HERE, IN THE MEADOW OF PEACE GUARDED BY YOUR LEGION OF ANGELS, LET MY HEART FIND REST. KEEP ME NEAR YOUR HOLY GRASP OF LOVE.

VERSE THREE

"BUT LORD, YOU ARE MY SHIELD, MY GLORY, AND MY ONLY HOPE. YOU ALONE CAN LIFT MY HEAD, NOW BOWED IN SHAME." (TLB)

MY LORD, AS I CATCH MY BREATH, PROTECTED IN YOUR GUARDED MEADOW, I'M REMINDED OF THE YEARS I HAVE SOUGHT YOUR LIGHT. FROM HEAVEN, YOU HAVE SHONE YOUR LIGHT TO GUIDE MY ANGUISHED SOUL INTO YOU ...
