I. INTRODUCTION
A. THE MEANING

1. REVELATION IS CALLED AN APOCALYPTIC WRITING.
THE WORD MEANS THE HIDDEN WORD OF GOD REVEALED.

- REVELATION IS THE UNVEILING. LIKE THE
UNVEILING OF A PAINTING, THE AUTHOR ALREADY KNOWS WHAT
IT WILL LOOK LIKE. GOD ALREADY KNOWS WHAT WILL TAKE
PLACE IN HISTORY. HE'S THE AUTHOR. THE BOOK OF
REVELATION UNVEILS THIS TO US.

2. REVELATION DEALS WITH ESCHATOLOGY. THE WORD
MEANS THINGS YET TO BE.

B. THE BACKGROUND OF THE WRITING

1. ONE OF THE CRUELEST MEN TO LIVE WAS A MAN
NAMED NERO. HE LOOKED LIKE A SUNDAY SCHOOL TEACHER
COMPARED TO HIS SUCCESSOR, DOMITIAN. THE EARLY CHURCH
BEGAN DURING HIS REIGN. HE WORKED TO DESTROY IT. HE
WAS SATAN'S AGENT.

2. DOMITIAN POURED OUT HIS FURY ON A DISCIPLE OF
JESUS' NAMED JOHN.

- JOHN HAD LEANED ON JESUS' CHEST THE NIGHT
BEFORE THE CRUCIFIXION. IN REVELATION YOU FIND HIM
FALLING AT HIS FEET.

3. DOMITIAN HAD ALREADY KILLED JAMES, THE
BROTHER OF JOHN. HE LEARNED THIS WAS COUNTER
PRODUCTIVE. THIS ONLY MOTIVATED THE CHURCH. THE
CHURCH HAS ALWAYS DONE BETTER IN TIMES OF PERSECUTION.

- COMPARED TO TODAY WHEN ALL IS WELL. THE
CHURCH IS SEEN AS A PAST TIME. LOOK AT THE NORMAL
SUNDAY. BOATS TO CARS, ETC... HEADED FOR THE BEACH,
THE MOUNTAINS. NOT REFERRING TO VACATION ETC...

4. JOHN WAS EXILED TO A ROCK ISLAND CALLED
PATMOS. JOHN WAS PASTOR OF THE CHURCH AT EPHESUS AND
RESPONSIBLE FOR SIX OTHERS IN ASIA MINOR.

5. REVELATION WAS WRITTEN 60 YEARS AFTER THE
CROSS.

C. THE VALUE OF THE BOOK

1. IF NOT FOR THE BOOK OF REVELATION WE WOULD
NOT KNOW THAT GOOD WOULD TRIUMPH OVER EVIL; THAT JESUS
WILL BE VICTORIOUS.

2. REVELATION IS THE LAST BOOK OF GOD'S WRITTEN
WORD TO MEN. THERE IS NO OTHER. BE AWARE OF FALSE
PROPHETS AND ...
