MATTHEW 7: 21-23
STARLIGHT CRUSADE-SUNDAY
1997

INTRODUCTION

A. IF I WERE TO ASK YOU TO DESCRIBE THE
CHURCH’S GREATEST DANGER WHAT
WOULD YOUR ANSWER BE/

1. COMPLACENCY

2. COMPROMISE.

B. THESE ARE GREAT DANGERS, BUT THERE IS
ONE GREATER. IT IS AN ETERNAL DANGER.

ILL. HAVE LIBBY BRIDGER COME AND GIVE HER
TESTIMONY HERE!

C. YOU HAVE JUST BEEN INTRODUCED TO THE
CHURCH’S GREATEST DANGER.

1. MEN AND WOMEN WHO HAVE NEVER
TRULY BEEN SAVED BUT THINK THEY
ARE.

2. BILLY GRAHAM: “THE MOST FRUITFUL
MISSION FIELD IS FOUND INSIDE THE
WALLS OF THE CHURCH.

3. IT IS DR. GRAHAM’S OPINION THAT 60-
70% OF CHURCH MEMBERS IN
AMERICA COULD BE LOST.

D. THE DANGER IS DECEPTION: THAT GOOD
PEOPLE COULD BE DECEIVED INTO
THINKING THEY ARE SAVED WHEN THEY
ARE NOT.
E. LEST YOU THINK THAT IMPOSSIBLE I WANT
YOU TO SEE THE WORDS OF JESUS IN
MATTHEW 7: 21-23.

1. MATTHEW 7 RECORDS LIFE’S MOST
TRAGIC STATEMENT.

2. PEOPLE WHO THINK THEY ARE OK
WILL ONE DAY BE TOLD BY THE LORD,
“DEPART FROM ME.”

F. TONIGHT AS I SHARE CHARACTERISTICS OF
THE TRULY SAVED AND THE DECIEVED I
WANT YOU TO BE VERY HONEST.

1. SOME OF YOU ARE GOING TO HAVE
CONFIRMED WHAT YOU HAVE BEEN
CONCERNED ABOUT FOR A TIME.

2. OTHERS ARE GOING TO BE TOTALLY
SHOCKED.

I. THE SITUATION. VS. 21.

(THERE ARE TWO KINDS OF PEOPLE MENTIONED IN
VS. 21.

A. THE DISCIPLE: THE CHRISTIAN: THE TRULY
SAVED.

1. HOW DOES ONE BECOME A
CHRISTIAN? BY DOING THE WILL OF
THE FATHER.

2. WHAT IS THE WILL OF THE FATHER?
THE WILL OF THE FATHER IS
REPENTANCE OF ONE’S SIN THAT LEADS
TO FAITH IN JESUS CHRIST.

3. NOT EVERYONE WHO SAYS THEY
HAVE DONE THAT HAVE.

B. THE DECEIVED. “NOT EVERYONE WHO
SAYS, LORD, LORD...”

1. SAYING YOU ARE A CHRISTIAN
DOESN’T MAKE YOU ONE.

ILL. IF I SAY I’M A MILLIONAIRE IT
DOESN’T MAKE ME ONE.

2. EXTERNAL ACTS DO NOT MAKE YOU
A CHRISTIAN.
