Matthew 19:16-26

How often have people come to you and asked for help. There are those that are blessed with the gift of mercy and immediately respond. But motivation needs to be determined! As a counselor you can develop people that are dependent upon you to solve their problems for them!

They are unwilling to do anything themselves! They want you to fix their problems and continue to live the way that they have been without change!

People with mercy sometimes hinder what God has designed to motivate individuals! Pain!

Need is not necessarily the criteria for God's response.

There was another element necessary.

Open your heart this morning as I share with you this important ingredient in soliciting God's help!

1. He must be more than any other
A. More than a Good teacher!
Vss. 16 and 16
"Good Teacher, what good thing shall I do that I may have eternal life?" So He said to him, "Why do you call Me good? No one is good but One, that is, God.

More than believing there is a God
James 2:19 "You believe that there is one God. You do well. Even the demons believe-- and tremble!" (NKJ)

B. More than the Law! Religion!
Vss. 18-22 But if you want to enter into life, keep the commandments." He said to Him, "Which ones?" Jesus said," 'You shall not murder,' 'You shall not commit adultery,' 'You shall not steal,' 'You shall not bear false witness,' 'Honor your father and your mother,' and, 'You shall love your neighbor as yourself.'" The young man said to Him, "All these things I have kept from my youth. What do I still lack?"

C. More than Self!
Vss.21 and 22 Jesus said to him, "If you want to be perfect, go, sell what you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow Me." But when the young man heard that saying, he went away sorrowful, for he had great possessions."


2. You must be truly motivated!

Go sell all!
