Developing a Pure Life
David A. Cawston
David Calls out to God after going down the avenues of thought of God's knowledge in this Psalm.
He has declared you have known my comings and goings. Vs. 1-3
You have known my words. Vs. 4-6
I cannot escape from your presence. Vs. 7-12
Even in the womb you knew me and formed me. Vs. 13-16
You think about me often Vs. 17 and 18
You know I hate what you hate Vs. 19-22
But you know God I am not perfect! There are flaws in my character!
Paul the Apostle states that in Romans 7:21 "that, when I would do good, evil is present with me."
I John 1:8
"If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us." (NKJ)
Life is a struggle of developing purity. We were not born that way, nor are we born again and constantly pure.
These is a constant war that is going on between three forces!
1. The Spirit of God
2. The Devil
3. The Flesh
Paul declares that we must learn to walk in the Spirit and only then we will not fulfill the lusts of the flesh Romans 8:1-9
There is a necessity for us to constantly allow the Holy Spirit access to search our hearts and work with us in this process.
David Reveals three keys in these verses.
I. Utilizing the Power of Objectivity
" Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts:"
A. I Can't see myself for my vision is clouded. I need an honest objective other to look at me.
God You Search me!
1. The Word
"Anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is like a man who looks at his face in a mirror and, after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like. But the man who looks intently into the perfect law that gives freedom, and continues to do this, not forgetting what he has heard, but doing it-- he will be blessed in what he does." (NIV)
2. The Holy Spirit
1 Cor 2:10
"The Spirit searches all things. . .(NIV)
