The Jewish community is getting very excited, particularly those of the ultra
conservative faith. Just recently, and perhaps you may have seen it Thursday night on
the news, there wa a wh ole segm-nt concerning the expectancy of the conservative
Jewish community concerning the Messiah's coming. It talked about and showed some
of the pictures of those who are worshipping and those who are expecting Christ to
Now they are looking for the Messiah to come the first time. We know, as
believers, He is coming back-He is already the Savior-He is coming back the second
time as King of Kings and Lord of Lords. But the fact that this is being talked about so
much-that it would be on ABC News, that it is being talked about in the Jewish
community where there is a rising sense of expectancy-says something to us as
believers, that we ought to be listening and also alert and excited about these times.
The reason there is a tremendous excitement in the conservative community of
the Jewish faith is that Menachem Schneerson, who is 89 years old and the rabbi of
this particular element of Judaism, prophesied that there was going to be a war in the
Persian Gulf, that there would be very few Jewish lives lost and that the war would end
by the feast of Purim or the holiday of Purim which was February 28th. At midnight on
February 27th, President Bush called a halt to the war in the Persian Gulf. So when
these predictions that the rabbi made came true, his other predictions that the Messiah
is coming have created a tremendous stir in the Jewish community. But for us as
evangelicals this should not create a special stir. It should simply heighten our ears
and our eyes to what is going on in the world;, wnat is happening ...
