Haggai 1: 1 - 9
It had been 70 long years since the captives had seen their
beloved homeland. During this time Nebuchadnezzar had leveled
the City of Jerusalem.
Upon returning the people had rebuilt the foundation of the
house of God. However, the surrounding people - the Samaritans -
had resented and resisted their actions (Ezra 4: 1-5). They
stopped the work. The threat passed but the people failed to
resume the work.
Sixteen years passed. Doubtless they intended to resume the work
but had not. Their excuse: "The time has not yet come" (Haggai
Haggai (1:4) challenged the people.
