Tape Fourteen, Jesus...God's Tough Love

... this morning I want us to continue the theme of looking at Jesus, and
discovering who He is, another facet of who Christ is.
This morning I want us to look at Jesus as God's Tough Love, love not only can
be tough, but love of necessity must be tough, because there is no love where
there is no truth. Unless there is truth, there must, there cannot be love. Love
and truth always go together.
So sometimes you have to speak the truth in love, and the truth brings us to
realize things that we may not want to look at. For instance, ah, if you had
the power to change something about yourself, what would it be? If you changed
something about yourself, what would it be?
Lewis Harris did a pole and he asked, "What is the percentage of Americans, if
they could change something about their looks, they would change it? If you had
the power to change something about how you looked, would you do it?" The
Harris pole says that 99 percent of the women responded yes, 99 percent of the
women in the pole said they would, if they could change something about how they
looked, they'd change it. But only 94 percent of the men indicated they would
change something about how they look.
Now why the five percent difference, okay? Look up at the screen, why the five
percent difference. Number one, that many men don't care how they look,
(laughter), do you agree with that? Number two, that many men never look in the
mirror, or the real truth, what do you think it is, number three? That many men
lied, they really would.
You know, we don't get to choose whether or not to have change in our lives,
change is a part of living. Everyday change is happening. And change can be
our friend. Change can be something that is wonderful. It depends on how we
are ...
