Ephesians 4:7-12


A. Spiritual gifts will differ from person
to person.

"And to some he gave apostles; and some prophets;
,and some evangelists; and some pastors and teachers.

1. Here Paul mentions gifted men; i.e.,
gifted position.

a. Apostles = ( )

(1) Means literally "one who is

(2) In one sense of the word
all believers are apostles
because we have all been sent.

(3) Here, however, Paul is
speaking of the office of

(4) There were originally twelve

(a) They were to give
witness of the resurrection.
Therefore, they were
required to have seen
Christ after His
resurrection personally.
(I Corinthians 9:1-2)

Ex. Luke was not an
apostle but Paul
was because he saw
Christ on the road
to Damascus.

There are no apostles today.

(b) They laid the doctrinal
foundation of the
church. (Ephesians 2:20)
Once the foundation was
laid they were no
longer needed.

(c) God authenticated
their ministry with
special miracles.
(Hebrews 2:1-4)

b. Prophets.

(1) The New Testament word
prophet does not mean fore-
teller; it means, rather,

(2) I believe these are people
who are especially gifted
Undiscerning spiritual
thing and proclaiming the
word of God with great

(3) The prophet does not give
new revelation, the prophet
speaks with great insight
and understanding from what
is already revealed in
if holy scripture.

c. Evangelists = ( )

(1) Proclaimer of good news.

(2) The gift of evangelism
is that special gift of
sharing the gospel of Christ
with the lost.

3) In New Testament days
evangelists were itinerate
preachers who traveled the
countryside witnessing and
winning men to Christ.

but God has gifted some with an extra portion
of anointing in the minist ...
