Things Worth Knowing
I John 3:19-24
One of the wonderful promises God gives to those
who receive the Lord Jesus Christ as Savior is that
they will receive peace in their troubled heart. In
John 14:27 Jesus promises, "Peace I leave with you, my
peace I give unto you. Not as the world gives give I
unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let
it be afraid."
In response to that promise many people receive
Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior. I think you
will agree with me that we are living in a troubled
world. In this kind of world of trouble there are
many people who have trouble of heart and they are
trying to do something about that trouble in their
hearts. People are taking tranquilizers in record
numbers. People are filling the offices of
psychologists and psychiatrists, definitely trying and
desperately seeking to find something that will soothe
the turmoil and anguish in their hearts. Then a
person comes to know Christ as their Lord and Savior.
Jesus comes in and they also find themselves in the
presence of the wonderful peace of God.
I am reading some verses here that are addressed
to believers. I am talking to saved people. He says
in verse 21 - "beloved." That is a reference to
those who are saved. He is using verses here talking
about this matter of assurance of heart to those who
are saved. There are those who have received Christ
as their Savior, but from time to time they also face
a troubled heart. They know that God has given them
peace through the Lord Jesus Christ. But because of a
variety of circumstances in their lives they lose the
assurance and peace and that old troubled heart comes
into their lives again.
