Clean Slate (1 of 3)
Series: Clean Slate: Erasing Every Regret; Enjoying Every Moment
‘‘It was just before the Passover Feast. Jesus knew that the time had come for Him to leave this world and go to the Father. Having loved His own who were in the world, He now showed them the full extent of His love.’’
John 13:1 (NIV)
1. DANCE BEFORE THE MUSIC STOPS
Principle #1: Live Passionately
‘‘Teach us to number our days and recognize how few they are; help us to spend them as we should.’’ Psalm 90:12 (LB)
- Waiting for perfect circumstances
‘‘To what, then, can I compare the people of this generation? What are they like? They are like children sitting in the marketplace and calling out to each other: ‘We played the flute for you, and you did not dance; we sang a dirge, and you did not cry.’’’ Luke 7:31, 32 (NIV)
- Wondering what people will think
‘‘David answered, ‘I was dancing to honor the Lord, I will become even more undignified than this, and I will be humiliated in my own eyes.’’’
2 Samuel 6:21, 22 (GN/NIV)
2. DANCE WITH ALL MY HEART
Principle #2: Love Completely
‘‘Jesus replied: ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’’’
Matthew 22:37-39 (NIV)
- Never wait to say what you need to
- Never wait to act in love
- Never wait to give
3. DANCE NO MATTER WHAT
Principle #3: Learn Humbly
‘‘Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus: Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be grasped, but made Himself nothing, taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to death -- even death on a cross!’’ Philippians 2:5-8 (NIV)
‘‘You have turned my mourning into joyful dancing. You have taken away my clothes of mourning and clothed me with joy, that I might sing praises to You and not be silent. O Lord my God, I will give You thanks forever!’’
Psalm 30:11-12 (NLT)
4. DANCE TO LEAVE AN ETERNAL LEGACY
Principle #4: Leave Boldly
‘‘As the time approached for Him to be taken up to heaven, Jesus
resolutely set out for Jerusalem.’’ Luke 9:51 (NIV)
Lord of the Dance
‘‘I danced on Friday when the sky turned black;
Though it’s hard to dance with the devil on your back.
They buried my body and they thought I’d gone;
But I am the dance and the dance goes on.
Dance, dance wherever you may be!
I am the Lord of the dance, said He.
And I will lead you all wherever you may be.
I will lead you all in the dance, said He.’’
